‘THE RICE PRINCIPLE’ = REST, ICE COMPRESSION and EVALUATION
REST
Stop The Activity That Caused The Injury (Use Crutches Or Sling To Decrease Use Of The Affected Area)
ICE
Apply Ice In 15-30 Minute Increments. Allow Sufficient Time Between Applications For The Affected Are To Return To Normal Temperature
COMPRESSION
Use Compression Garments Or Wraps To Decrease Or Prevent Swelling
ELEVATION
Reduce Swelling By Elevating The Affected Area Above The Heart.
