On Caring for Patients . . .
“I take a great deal of pride in the work I do with non-operative patients, whether children, the elderly, or other patients for whom surgery is either not indicated or not an option. It’s all about improving quality of life by getting people back to the activities they enjoy. I know how important it is to live an active life. Along with family and friends, I canoe and bike ride. We take part in events like the Midnight Bike Ride in Chicago, and we serve as balloon handlers in the Thanksgiving Parade. My own enjoyment of activities like these reminds me how important it is to help others regain or maintain their mobility.”
On Practicing . . .
“I put a great deal of emphasis on preventative care. This fits in well with MOI’s team approach, which involves certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, physicians’ assistants, and orthopaedic surgeons. I also believe that a physician’s practice should extend to the broader community, including coaches, athletic directors, park districts, and YMCAs. As part of that commitment, I participate in clinics for the underinsured and have served as Preceptor for the organization Action for Youth Athletes in Chicago.”
On Sports Medicine . . .
“It’s really rewarding to work with people who do all they can to stay fit and who respond to the efforts we make to return them to peak condition. At the same time, I have a responsibility to make sure they are ready to return to competition. I really enjoy providing sideline and event coverage for local high school sports teams, and my positions as Team Physician for the U.S. Soccer Federation and as a Medical Team Leader for the Chicago Marathon keep me in touch with athletes at the highest levels of competition.”
